“NVIDIA has helped push computing and AI performance forward by 1 Million times over the past 10 years” – Jensen Huang

Jensen Huang, Founder & CEO, NVIDIA talking to Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, at World Governments Summit, Dubai, February 12, 2024
Key points:
Huang frames the current moment as the start of an industrial revolution centered on the production not of energy or food, but of intelligence itself.

Sovereign AI: His said that every country needs to own the production of its own intelligence — a concept he calls “Sovereign AI.” Data ownership matters because it encompasses a nation’s culture, societal intelligence, common sense, and history, and countries must refine and own their national intelligence based on their unique capabilities.

Democratizing AI: Huang said the technology is democratized and every country has recently come to realize AI has to be actively adopted. He contends AI has already been democratized to the point where it’s accessible to researchers everywhere, fueling innovation across many fields.

Accelerated computing: He said that general-purpose computing is no longer sufficient for sustainable, high-performance, cost-effective computing, making the shift to accelerated computing necessary. NVIDIA has helped push computing and AI performance forward by roughly a million times over the past ten years.

Programming becomes universal: Huang said NVIDIA’s mission is to build computing technology so that nobody has to write traditional code — programming itself becomes “human language,” meaning everyone effectively becomes a programmer.
