Bangladesh Open Source Network’s (BDOSN) “Chakri Khujbo Na Chakri Debo” entrepreneurship program has launched the “Luna Shamsuddoha Women Entrepreneur Award”. The Daffodil International University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department together with IPDC Finance. The declaration was made at the event of the Entrepreneur Award 2021. Munir Hasan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) made the announcement. Luna Shamsuddoha, the founder of the software company Dohatec New Media, is a prominent female IT entrepreneur from Bangladesh. She was the first woman to lead a state-owned bank in Bangladesh and the Founding President of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT). She served as the Chairman and Director of Janata Bank Ltd., and Director Agrani Bank Ltd., and Director SME Foundation. She also served as a Trustee for Bangladesh’s Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP) and Trustee Vice Chair Independent University Bangladesh (IUB).
In honor of the IT Pioneer and in acknowledgment of her achievements to Bangladeshi women’s entrepreneurship and technology, the “Luna Shamsuddoha Women Entrepreneur Award” was added to the list of award categories. From this year forward, this Award will be given to Female Business Owners who have made outstanding contributions to the IT sector.
This year’s “Luna Shamsuddoha Women Entrepreneurship Award 2021” was given to Women in Digital founder Achia Khaleda Neela. Her group has been working tirelessly to boost women’s participation in several fields of technology. Her organization works to ensure women’s economic empowerment using the Internet in addition to promoting women’s empowerment through technology. They have offices in rural areas of both Bangladesh and Nepal.
Additionally, Jamal Hossain, the creator of the Pakhi Jamdani weaving business, received the “Yusuf Chowdhury Entrepreneur Award 2021,” and Shahjahan Jewell’s IT company Athlab received the “Nurul Quader Entrepreneurship Award 2021” in the special award category.
“Chakri Khujbo Na Chakri Debo” has been recognizing aspiring and young business owners since 2014. This year Chairman of Daffodil Group, Sabur Khan, IPDC Finance Limited Additional Managing Director Rizwan Daud Sams, Head of MME. Mahmudur Rahman, secretary in the implementation inspection and evaluation department of the Ministry of Planning, Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, managing director of SME Foundation. Md. Mofizur Rahman, BDOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan, Daffodil Group CEO Md. Nuruzzaman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Skill Development Institute KM Hasan Ripon, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department of the same university Kamruzzaman Didar and many others were present at this award event to celebrate the entrepreneurs and their work.
