On November 17, 2023, the Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB) organized the TMGB-Luna Shamsuddoha Scholarship program to honor the memory of a remarkable woman, Luna Shamsuddoha, the late chairperson of Dohatec New Media. This scholarship aims to recognize and celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of its recipients, who demonstrate exemplary academic performance and show a strong promise to create a better future for their country’s development. The event took place at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Auditorium in the Social Science Faculty of the University of Dhaka.
The program was graced by the chief guest, Mustafa Jabbar, the Honorable Minister for Post and Telecommunications. Notable personalities from the tech industry attended the event, including several EC members from tech-related associations; Shomi Kaiser, the president of the E-Commerce Association Bangladesh (ECAB); Abdur Rahman Khan, the secretary-general of the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS); Rezwana Khan, the president of Bangladesh Women in IT (BWIT), among others. It gathered influential individuals in the technology field, bringing together participants from various sectors to share knowledge and encourage scholarship recipients.
The educational program aimed to promote the value of education among students by eliminating barriers and ensuring equal opportunities for all to succeed. Financial incentives were given to students, which included scholarships and grants for those who needed financial support. Additionally, younger children received educational supplies and equipment to enhance their learning experience. The program’s holistic approach emphasized the significance of education and its potential to create a brighter future for individuals and nations.
However, the scholarship is now limited to the guild members’ children. The TMGB president stated that they plan to gradually expand the eligibility of the scholarship to all children of journalists of all sectors, not just the guild members, and later, there will be no parameters. This initiative aims to provide educational opportunities to students who are passionate about learning but lack the financial means to pursue their dreams. With this program, students can focus on their studies without worrying about the financial burden and become the next generation of professionals who will shape the future of their communities and the world.
