Last Friday presented a considerable test for Dohatec’s training team and participants as they embarked on the 5-day Procuring Entity (PE) training. The training, commencing on Friday, July 12th, and scheduled to conclude on July 16th, is being held across three venues with 20 participants at each location. These three venues are Dohatec HQ in Paltan, Dohatec’s Training Centre in Hossain Tower, Paltan and Unique Heights, Paribagh. Trainees from important government offices, such as Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC), Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), and the Directorate of Technical Education, were included in these training sessions.
At Dohatec HQ (Paltan), the trainers are Kazi Asad Robin, Shahin Abdullah, and Syed Farzaad Sayeed, with Mohammad Rafiqul Islam coordinating for the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC). At Dohatec Hossain Tower (Paltan), the trainers are Golam Maruf, Santanu Chowdhury, and Sujan Chandra Sarker, coordinated by Asif Ahmed for the Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL). Lastly, the trainers at Dohatec Unique Heights (Paribagh) are Md. Asaduzzaman, Md. Yameen Hossain and Anika Asfi, with coordination by Shaikh Mohammed Zahid Uddin for the Directorate of Technical Education. In the face of challenging weather conditions, the determination and commitment of all those involved proved pivotal in ensuring the day’s success.
The Unexpected Challenges
The training day started on a challenging note, with heavy rainfall in Dhaka causing severe flooding and impassable road conditions. The downpour began in the early hours and continued till noon with brief pauses. The Meteorological Office recorded 130mm of rainfall in six hours from 6:00 am. The water levels rose to the point where it reached the height of a person’s waist, leading to considerable chaos in transportation. Numerous vehicles succumbed to the conditions and broke down. At the same time, the closure of several connecting roads presented a substantial obstacle for all participants attempting to make their way to the training locations.
The trainers and coordinators encountered major challenges. Ms. Taslima Akter, Dohatec’s Director of Knowledge and Training, was stranded on the road for nearly an hour. Despite trying to navigate through the flooded streets, her car eventually succumbed to the rising water, compelling her to abandon it and wade through waist-high water to reach the headquarters. Similarly, other trainers and coordinators faced severe conditions; some even experienced vehicle breakdowns. Nevertheless, they all persevered and arrived at their respective venues punctually.
The challenges faced on that day went beyond simply getting to the venues. The scheduled vendor couldn’t supply snacks because of the weather conditions. However, Md. Al-Amin, Office Supervisor at Dohatec, ensured snacks and lunch were arranged for all the training venues on schedule. This ensured that all the participants and staff were well taken care of.
Despite facing various challenges, all trainees showed impressive resilience and dedication by arriving at their destinations on time, achieving a perfect attendance rate of 100%. This reflects their unwavering commitment to achieving professional excellence.
Conclusion
The recent training session on Friday showcased not only the outstanding professional capabilities of Dohatec’s trainees but also the exceptional dedication and teamwork demonstrated by Dohatec’s trainers, coordinators, and support staff. Despite facing adverse weather conditions and numerous challenges, the unwavering commitment of everyone involved ensured the success of the day. This experience is a testament to the significance of resilience, adaptability, and teamwork in accomplishing Dohatec’s objectives.
